What to Expect When You Work With Homestead

At Homestead Barndominiums, we believe the best projects start with clear expectations. That’s why we take time up front to help you understand the process, your options, and what’s required before construction begins.

Whether you’re building a barndominium, a traditional home, or a custom structure, our goal is to make sure you feel informed, prepared, and confident long before the first shovel hits the ground.

Step 1 – Starting the Conversation

The Consultation

Every project begins with a consultation. This initial step allows us to understand your goals, discuss your ideas, and determine the best path forward for your build. We offer two consultation options depending on where you are in the planning process.

Simple Estimation (Free)

Ideal for homeowners who are still exploring ideas or need a general price range based on square footage, layout, and finished level.

Money Line Quote ($250)

Designed for clients ready to sit down with us to review specific floor plans, materials, and detailed pricing. This consultation involves dedicated time and expertise to prepare an accurate, customized estimate.

Step 2 – Preparation Makes the Difference

Before We Build

To keep projects moving smoothly, we encourage clients to prepare a few key items before moving into final design and pricing. Being prepared allows us to give you clearer guidance and more accurate pricing from the start.

A general budget or pre-approval amount

00

Property location and site details

00

Preferred square footage and layout ideas

00

Any inspiration photos, sketches, or floor plans

Step 3 – Every Property is Different

Site Prep & Permits

No two building sites are the same. Some properties require minimal preparation, while others may involve grading, tree removal, or additional groundwork.

Permitting requirements also vary across Alabama. Some rural properties require few permits, while others fall within city or police jurisdictions that require additional approvals. Our team helps navigate these details based on your specific location.

Rather than offering one-size-fits-all timelines, we assess each site individually to set realistic expectations.

Step 4 – From Foundation to Finish

Construction Phases

Once plans are finalized and permits are secured, construction begins. We communicate throughout the process so you always know where your project stands. While each build is unique, most projects follow these general phases:

00

Foundation

Preparing the pad or foundation based on your structure type.

00

Framing

Structural framing using engineered trusses or traditional wood framing.

00

Exterior Buildout

Roofing, siding, doors, and windows.

00

Interior Buildout

Electrical, plumbing, insulation, and finishes.

00

Final Walkthrough

Reviewing the completed build before move-in.

Helping You Navigate Construction Loans

Financing Support

While Homestead does not offer in-house financing, we work closely with lenders experienced in barndominium and construction loans that understand the unique nature of these builds and help many of our clients move efficiently from construction loans into long-term financing.
